On Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 5:00 P.M., the Colleton County School District and Thunderbolt Career & Technology Center (TCTC) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of their new Barbering & Nail Tech programs. The event was warmly welcomed by Director Andy Kubik, who expressed his gratitude to all those who joined in supporting this milestone.
Superintendent Jessica Williams was thrilled to acknowledge the presence of Colleton County School Board members, Walterboro City Council, County Council representatives, and local business leaders. “It is truly an incredible achievement to offer such diverse work-based learning opportunities to our students, empowering them with the skills they need to thrive in the workforce,” stated Williams.
Williams also expressed her appreciation for the numerous current and former district employees, educators, directors, and community members who attended to celebrate this important occasion. The ceremony featured special remarks from School Board Chairperson Lynn Stroble, Mayor Bill Young, County Council Chairman Scott Biering, as well as the program instructors, Malkia Berry (Nail Tech Instructor) and Raquel Bryan (Barbering Instructor), and Katherine Bradford, Regional Career Specialist.
Following the ribbon cutting, guests were treated to a delectable meal prepared by Chef LaShawn Williams and the Culinary students at TCTC, which included garlic mashed potatoes, sautéed green beans, salmon patties, oven-roasted turkey with gravy, baked ziti, herb rolls, and a delicious bread pudding for dessert.
Attendees were also invited to tour the facilities at Thunderbolt Career & Technology Center, which offers a range of programs including Automotives, Culinary Arts, Engineering, Welding, Child Development, Agriculture, and Small Animal Care.
