Greetings CCMS Families:
We are excited to highlight Mrs. Holmes’ 6th grade Science class! Our students had a blast using the scientific method to explore how many candies of each color are in a bag of Skittles. They collected data, made hypotheses, recorded their results on charts, created graphs, and drew conclusions just like real scientists.
This fun and engaging activity not only made science come alive, but also helped students work together, think critically, and discover the joy of learning through hands-on experiences.

Greetings CCMS Families,
Today we are excited to spotlight our 8th Grade Gifted and Talented Social Studies class!
Our GT students were given the task of creating models of a tribal village to represent one of the three main Native American tribes in South Carolina: Cherokee, Catawba, and Yemassee.
Each model showcases important aspects of tribal life, including:
Housing
Food sources
Natural resources
Region or environment
Students are also able to share their models and explain their thinking to peers and instructors. This process fosters discussions and collaborative learning, allowing students to learn from one another and deepen their understanding.
This project provided our students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge in a creative and hands-on manner while exploring South Carolina’s rich Native American history. We are so proud of their effort, creativity, and hard work! Great job to Mrs. Rainford and to her students.

The staff at Colleton County School District has been very busy for the start of the new year. The Communications Team has started an internal “Tell Me Something Good” campaign to boost team morale and keep the positive energy moving. Each week employees will submit something positive by 5pm on Friday. A random winner will be chosen each Monday and presented with a small token to say thank you for promoting positivity within our district.
This week our “Tell Me Something Good” winner was Mrs. Lisa Stephens from Colleton County High School. Mrs. Stephens shared the following quote, “Let your smile be the reason someone smiles today.” Congratulations and keep up the great work!

As the i-Ready fall diagnostic testing kicks off this week for kindergarten through 8th grade, it is important to ensure your student is present and on time to school. Your child should get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast in the morning. These assessments provide valuable baseline data to help track student growth throughout the academic year.

On August 14, 2025 we wrapped up our Be Pro Be Proud truck experience at CCHS! 🚚🛠️ This mobile experience gives students the chance to explore options outside of college while learning about the most in-demand trades in South Carolina. BPBP provided hands-on opportunities to try truck driving, forklift operation, welding, and excavating simulators, plus VR experiences for carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical work, and diesel technology.
We’re grateful to our School Board Members Sharon Witkin, Glenn Nixon, and Roman Cunningham for coming out to show their support, along with Leslie Johnson, our Regional Workforce Advisor, and Ms. Charlene Williams, our middle school CDF, for all her assistance. Special thanks to our teachers, students, and MVP student volunteers for making this two-day event a success.
This event was proudly organized by our High School Career Department, Ms. Jasmine Thomas and Mr. Romeo Edwards, and we couldn’t have done it without the amazing BPBP staff who kept our students engaged and inspired.

Greetings CCMS Families,
This week, we’re excited to highlight our amazing 6th graders and the outstanding work happening in their ELA classes. Students are working on a persuasive writing project in which they must convince people either to evacuate or to ride out a storm in the event of a major hurricane. This engaging assignment challenges students to use evidence to support their claims while connecting their writing to a real-world scenario. Authentic and meaningful projects like this help students strengthen critical thinking and communication skills.
A big shout-out to our 6th grade ELA department for designing such powerful learning experiences for our students. Check out these great photos of our teachers and students in action!
